I am putting forward this proposal for board approval. Approval of the precise choice of 60GHz gear should probably be left to final decision by Netops so long as the cost is approximately the same. Cost from Kenny's spreadsheet totals to $1700. This building/tower currently houses the PTZ camera for ETiger, several repeaters owned by KF7BJI and at the moment is connected to HamWAN via a small puck radio on the roof. (Via the S3 sector on the WA7HJK tower) The proposed upgrade would add another sector (S1) to the site, which isn't possible on the WA7HJK towers due to space limitations. Part of the expansion includes adding a 60Ghz link between the buildings, to move the traffic off the S3 sector. The proposed radios are a new product from Mikrotik and are designed specifically for harsh environments. HamWAN Roll Call

In trying to promote HamWAN (or HamWAN-like) microwave systems around the country, it is helpful to know how widely this type of system has been adopted. Outside of Puget Sound (which includes the Victoria and Clark County extensions) I've found, Memphis, Central Michigan, Lowndes County (GA), Albuquerque, Tampa Bay, Kelowna (BC), and Spokane. Advice for parts for a portable setup

Hello to the group! I am on Bainbridge Island, and I am looking into a portable setup to experiment with from different locations. While there is a lot of useful gear info on the website and on this listserv, I want to make sure that I don't end up getting something that doesn't maximize data speeds or will be obsolete in a year. I am looking for advice for a complete portable system. I can make use of a power supply and tripod that I already have, although I'd be interested on input on that, as well. For those times you have to use a zip tie

Hello, We tend to use proper cable cushion/hanger hardware on towers, but in other places a zip tie is sometimes needed. We had a ton of zip ties pop off before, and always see them breaking off when climbing towers with ties. Luckily Mr.Project Farm has released a zip tie comparison video today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMfOwPuN0Ao I found it really informative, and you may too, if you're into such obscure things like performance of zip ties in outdoor environments and their failure modes under load. --Bart

WA Wildfires

Hello All, I wanted to share a quick note about how some HamWAN users who were viewing the camera feeds this morning and spotted a small fire that had started. They reported it to the DNR, who thanked them for the first report they’d gotten on the fire, and they’ve sent a team to try and keep it small and under control.
