I just looked at the Reddit link and noted the bizarre and uneducated comments posted about a historic but vital AT&T system that gave us TV and long distance telephone communication for many year starting in the late forties through the 90's when replaced by fiber optic cable. So much for history.

I am guessing that the solid lines with the directional markings are microwave paths I wonder if the dashed lines are following railroad right of ways? I know that fiber optic cables run along the RR right of way now. I am not sure if they used to do the same thing with copper. Now that I think about it, there always used to be overhead cables or wires along the RR right of way. I had always assumed those were for RR communications. Perhaps I was wrong and they belonged to someone else who leased the space.
