Well, I can now confirm that the LHG XL 52 ac is unable to do 5MHz/10MHz channels so can't be used for HamWAN. Any other suggestions for dual-band hardware gladly welcomed. 73 -de- n8qg
I thought I had posted about that already, if not: sorry. I bought a LHG XL52ac a few months back and never got it to connect; I haven’t given up yet, as I’ve been hearing about a hack done in EU that I need to research. But I have another use for it so no $ wasted: remote weak signal WiFi connections for my travel trailer, and it’s working for that (although took some unusual config). The LHG XL HP5 and LHG HP5 both work well for HamWan, have both of those going here. Do not know if the LHG XL 5ac will work, you’d need to contact MikroTik support to ask about channel widths. As usual, get the international (non-US) version; much less expensive and MUCH faster 1wk delivery from eurodk.com, compared to the US dealer. Thanks -- that's helpful. I have an RBLHG-5nD that's working great, but I specifically need a dual-band, 2ghz and 5ghz solution. I can't seem to identify one that will work. (I figured the best way to see if the XL52ac would work or not was to try it). It states right on the HamWAN web page that you must have an 802.11a/n modem, that ac modems do not support 5 or 10 MHz channels. Also you must make sure you buy an international, or ROW (rest of world) version of the dish to be able to go outside of Part15 frequencies (necessary for HamWAN). You should refer to the HamWAN list of client hardware here http://hamwan.org/Standards/Component%20Engineering/Client%20Hardware.html Also note that your client device must also be capable of nv2 protocol. Be very careful of buying on Amazon, as most of the devices sold there are US only devices (even if they don’t indicate such in the part number). I’m not aware of any dual band hardware that will work for HamWAN on the 5GHz side. In my particular case, I was seeking a dual-purpose setup for portable use, that can do both HamWan & WiFi in a convenient portable single antenna setup (reduce what I pack around). Not sure what David’s application is. I live on a sailboat and want a single dish I can use for HamWAN but also use for picking up 2ghz Part 15 wifi when I'm travelling and anchored out. Having two dishes is not ideal for a small boat. :) The LHG XL 52 ac was suggested as possibly compatible by Bart Kus last time I posted, so I ordered one to try it out. I'd love any advice on dual-band hardware that might work. I had previously heard that there are MikroTik 5Ghz-only 802.11ac/a/n (non-dual band) model(s) that will work with HamWan (ie, supports the 10MHz bandwidth 5n channels), although I did not personally bother to chase down the model number(s) someone is using, as that didn’t make sense for my personal needs. A quick look shows the LHG 5ac or QRT 5ac as a possibility (RBLHGG-5acD). Maybe someone who did that and reading this will let us know?
