Kitsap County Tests: East Bremerton, West Bremerton, Silverdale
I had good success thanks to Tom at KD7LXL. Thanks for your help, Tom on 147.30 WB7DOB/R! From East Bremerton (looking into downtown Seattle): -88 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ -79 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S3 -81 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S1 -81? db Mirrormont (didn't capture the data, but good signal) From West Bremerton on the ground at Kitsap County EOC (looking into trees): -79 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ I need to get above the vegetation. From West Bremerton on Lansing St. N (other side of the trees--looking at Bainbridge and Port Orchard): -77 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ -82 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S3 -85 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S1 no Mirrormont We will have good signals to Baldi and Haystack. From Silverdale (red spot on coverage prediction at Ridgetop Rd.) no signals (lots of vegetation to the east and south) I need to get above the vegetation. No Capitol Park. I will do Port Orchard Fire Station 8 (Kitsap County Alternate EOC, KD7WDJ) tomorrow. I will revisit Manchester and list the stations I received. 73 from Dan at K7MM
Glad to hear about your various successful tests today. But why are you using *that* antenna? It's a terrible antenna. You'd get better numbers with the Poynting. --Bart On 03/28/2014 11:18 PM, Daniel Ransom wrote:

Bart, You know about the antenna in my photo--this is good. I was wondering if it was a decent antenna. I got it for $25 on eBay. I ordered a Poynting antenna. I appreciate your help. 73 from Dan at K7MM ________________________________ From: Bart Kus <me@bartk.us> To: Puget Sound Data Ring <psdr@hamwan.org> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2014 11:43 PM Subject: Re: [HamWAN PSDR] Kitsap County Tests: East Bremerton, West Bremerton, Silverdale Glad to hear about your various successful tests today. Hi Dan, I think this is the antenna in the photos (GD5W-28P): https://www.hamwan.org/t/tiki-index.php?page=Laird+GD5W-28P There's a comparison of it to some other antennas here: https://www.hamwan.org/t/tiki-index.php?page=Antenna+Shootout It looks to be about 3 dB under the Poynting, despite being the same size. That explains the difference in your numbers to my models--they're all off by at least 3 dB! Tom KD7LXL
Today I did some ground-level tests at Fire Station 8, and I documented Manchester. From Manchester on Colchester Dr. at Yukon Harbor Rd. -73 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ no Baldi no Mirrormont From Kitsap Fire Station 8 (on the ground, lots of surrounding vegetation) no signals I expect to do an elevated test at Fire Station 8 on Friday. I can hardly wait to get my Poynting antenna. 73 from Dan at K7MM ________________________________ From: Tom Hayward <esarfl@gmail.com> To: Puget Sound Data Ring <psdr@hamwan.org> Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2014 10:25 AM Subject: Re: [HamWAN PSDR] Kitsap County Tests: East Bremerton, West Bremerton, Silverdale On Sat, Mar 29, 2014 at 7:09 AM, Daniel Ransom <danra995@yahoo.com> wrote:

Tests today from Fire Station 8 and Manchester Dock with the new Poynting antenna. FS8 Simpson Training Tower: no signals, water tower right in front of me. Next step--negotiate for access to the water tower (already started). Manchester Dock: good signals from Baldi, Haystack, and from AE7SJ. From Manchester on Colchester Dr. at Yukon Harbor Rd. -78 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ (previous was -73 with Laird antenna and clear weather) no Baldi no Mirrormont From Manchester at Manchester Dock (end of Madrone Dr. E) -71 dB Haystack-S3/AE7SJ 70 degrees (over the south end of Bainbridge Island) -79 dB AE7SJ 70 degrees -72 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S3 160 degrees (over the south end of Blake Island) -73 dB N7FSP/Baldi-S1 160 degrees I am getting another (same) tripod, so I will have two setups: one with Poynting antenna, and one with Laird antenna, for some A/B comparisons. 73 from Dan at K7MM ________________________________ From: Daniel Ransom <danra995@yahoo.com> To: Puget Sound Data Ring <psdr@hamwan.org> Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2014 5:17 PM Subject: Re: [HamWAN PSDR] Kitsap County Tests: Manchester, Fire Station 8 Today I did some ground-level tests at Fire Station 8, and I documented Manchester.
