Lookout re-scheduled (Weather) to Sat 9/21 - need ground crew update

Greetings all, Sorry to say that I'm going to pull the plug on Lookout and reschedule it for Saturday 9/21 due to the expectation of rain in the forecast for Bellingham. While the weather-guessers don't have it down exactly, they all expect a 40-65% chance that rain will be coming through at various points during the day, and it's not worth wasting everyone's time and safety. With that, I'll re-issue the call for volunteers to help with the ground crew on 9/21. We probably only need 2-3 total. Let me know if you're available and interested. Cheers, Rob Salsgiver - NR3O

So managed to get the system up and running tonight. There will be some tinkering that is needed [My mast mounted USW-Flex doesnt want to power the dish with its current power source.. so some work to be done there], and I want to try and get a second link up and running to one of the other towers as well (assuming trees allow me). [cid:image002.png@01D568E6.0DF71100] I probably need to do a little bit of a better job aligning the dish, but 70dB SNR should be plenty. I am noticing though, that without data being passed my CCQ and rates drop way off… its been a long time since iv played with MT wifi gear, but I assume this is expected? Does anyone on the network want to test connection/ping to me? Current IP is 44.25.131.214 Question; I will want to get a static IP allocated here (one for the dish, and one for my router ideally)… and if I recall reading right Hamwan uses OSPF for internal routing.. Once I sort out my 44. Allocation I would love to get that advertised onto the network. Who do I talk to about those things 😉? Possibility of tower usage for nonprofit WISP?

Hi all, I'm a ham radio operator with an interest in disaster preparedness. A few years ago I moved to Seattle from Portland, where I had volunteered with MCARES and PBEM. Recently, I've been considering purchasing a home in the Toledo/Chehalis area. I see that Toledo has fiber but Boistfort/Ceres/Meskill/surrounding areas have very poor internet service coverage. One of my requirements is to have (relatively) fast home internet, so this is a problem! Being a wireless mesh nerd, I'm mulling over the idea of starting a nonprofit WISP to bring coverage to myself and others in the area. I see there's a site up on Boistfort Peak/BawFaw. I know that HamWAN itself can't be used for internet access, but is tower space available for this purpose (e.g. a few Ubiquiti radios & antennas)? Thanks, Pavel

1-2 ground crew needed for Lookout 9/14 (Sat)

Greetings all, Weather permitting, we are looking to do a revisit to Lookout this coming Saturday 9/14 to finish up what we can before the end of this season. We have 2 additional sectors to put up and some tweaking to do on the PTP dish to Victoria. Most of the previous ground crew were SnoCo ACS members who will be out supporting the Plain 100 race. I can use 1-2 people to assist. Email me directly if you are available and interested. Lookout is SE of Bellingham, and we will likely be onsite ~ 9am to 3pm. HamWAN

I got all my equipment, I was going to use this for my winlink packet system for the IP, what else can I use HamWAN for? Can I use it to browse google? I don’t know what it’s limitations are, video streaming is that out of the question? I know these might seem like stupid questions but I’m just curious what all I will be able to do after I get up and going? Thanks Everett W7EWH

One node network for testing?

Hi I am currently not in your coverage. However, I want to have some understanding of the system engineering. I am thinking about setting up one “provider/cell” site in my backyard. I can’t find any details on how to do that. Any information would be appreciated. For those hardware listed in “client hardware”, could they be tuned to providing service? Thanks Kun

1/2" Outdoor UV Protected CAT 5e

All, I'm not sure what the current cable type and product is running from tower mounted antennas to the equipment in the site shelters, but check this product out. I came across this Outdoor rated CAT5e cable designed to mount alongside coax on a tower. It grounds like ½" coax. This is exciting things that jumped out to me: 1. Mounts to towers using common coax rubber doughnut ½" mounts 2. Can be grounded just like coax to meet the requirements of the site owner 3. Is Outdoor rated 4. Thanks for your reply. I have big plans like building a state wide Wan however knowing there are a lot of things I don't know like propagation for such a flat country and networking to that scale I figure best to start somewhere and build from there. I do have a tower site that needs internet for IRLP that is 30 miles away. This may be the answer I need if I can make the path work. I also in learning more would like to better connect to the other 44 net devices like weather cams and such. The state wide thing if possible would be more of a 10 year goal at best. I will be very happy if I can work something out in my neighborhood. I have noticed a couple different model numbers of the RB2011. Is there a difference between them or just a newer model? North Dakota HamWan questions

I have been interested in the HamWan system for a couple of years now. As I understand there isn't anyone in North Dakota doing anything with HamWan or AMPRNet. I would like to start working to build a network in my area. Will need to build this in stages as there isn't much or a budget started for this. I am thinking to start buying a RB2011UAS-RM. Does this make sense to connect to the AMPRNet or is there a better place to build from? I have a HHUS number 4592 and can connect to a DMR WG or fusion reflector if someone can talk more about this idea/ question. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jason Linz KC0GCJ

RB912 Ethernet jack

Does anyone have a digikey/mouser part number for the shielded jack Mikrotik uses on the RB912? We have a couple which the PoE pins have been burnt away, but which still work fine with external power.
