Camp Murray volunteer update

We are good at the moment for this coming Saturday - 7/20 unless you happen to be a card-carrying tower climber <g>. Thanks to Doug, Carl, Tom, Steve, and Kenny for stepping up to help out this weekend. Next weekend (7/27) we have NO additional ground crew other than myself. If you can help out on Saturday the 27th, please let me know. Depending on how much we accomplish this weekend we may or may not need the 27th. More as soon as we know it. Cheers, Rob

Camp Murray install 7/20 and 7/27 - ground crew needed

Greetings all, The next 2 Saturdays we will be installing (4) PTP dishes at Camp Murray. This Saturday (7/20) Bart will be climbing and installing as much as we can. Next Saturday Mike Ping will do the climbing to finish what we don't get done this weekend. We can use 2-3 people for additional ground crew both days. Doug and I will be there on 7/20 and I will be there on 7/27 as Doug has prior commitments. As most of you know Camp Murray is the State EOC and is a very important link for statewide EMCOMM entities. It is also a great asset to have participating in the HamWAN network. In order to volunteer you MUST be registered as a Washington State Emergency Worker - either through Camp Murray or your local City or County EOC. You will need to send a copy of your Emergency Worker Card to our contact at Camp Murray prior to arriving on-site, and you must wear your credentials while you are there. We are planning to start at 8am and run through 5pm, possibly later depending on the climbers' comfort and energy reserves. I will be onsite this Saturday between 7 and 7:30 to start pulling gear out of storage. If you hold an Emergency Worker card and can help on one or both weekends, please let me know. VOTE: New Dish for BawFaw - Nicolai (and its replacement to stock)

(this is a repeat request as no one responded) Tom installed a new 30db dish at Baw Faw to improve the link to Larch and provide a link to Nicolai. This helps support our effort to get the shoreline counties online. I propose that this is a HamWAN supported installation and that the use of that dish from our stock needs to be replaced by HamWAN. I call for a vote from the board so I can proceed with replacement. -Doug-

Hello all, We put up our first HamWAN connection today at Cape George (Port Townsend) WA for the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club (W7JCR). The client configuration instructions on the hamwan.org site worked perfectly. Link is 40.2 mi. -74dbm connected to Triangle Sector 2. Using a 2ft dish (30dbi) and radio is Basebox 5 International, RB912UAG-5HPnD-OUT Radio is on a rooftop 30ft above ground with clear LOS to Victoria and Triangle. 73 John, W0JCM w0jcm(a)arrl.net

Over ~40 miles of sea, having ~30dB signal variance is normal unless you have spatial diversity, so it's expected to fade out often; it may not necessarily be alignment. Looking to borrow some hardware

Hello PSDR! First a brief introduction. I have been a Ham operator for over 15 years. During the day I am a personal computer network and systems administrator. At my current place of employment we extensively use the MikroTik line of switches and routers. I purchased a MikroTik LHG 5 dish about 18 months ago. Made a few attempts to get connected, then other personal projects took priority. I live in Kenmore. (47.743601, -122.259885 if anyone has a suggestion regarding which way I should point my antenna in my next attempt). Possibly as soon as this weekend I'm going to try and get connected again. My primary reason for this message: I am a member of the Northshore Emergency Management Coalition (NEMCo) which supports emergency communications for City of Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, local Fire stations, and the Northshore Utility District. We are looking into ways (independent of the Internet, and land lines) to transfer larger files (pictures, resource reports, supply requests) between the various operations centers in and around Kenmore. We currently have 1200 baud winlink in place. One thing we're researching is the use of the HamWan technology to setup our own WAN between these buildings. Before investing in the equipment we'd like to conduct some site tests between the buildings. To that end I was wondering if anyone out there has a spare antenna/radio that we could borrow. We would need it for a few weeks as we setup the experiments on the weekends and evenings. We have to arrange building and roof access with the employees of the various agencies. Our secondary goal in the project would be to connect at least one of these locations to the Puget Sound Ring (if possible). The city Kenmore is kind of in a hole relative to the surrounding terrain. We have access to a water town on Finn Hill for a 70cm repeater that we might be able to take advantage of. I appreciate any feedback, and certainly any equipment loan offer. If the price is right a couple of us in the team might consider a purchase if someone has extra equipment they'd like to sell. 73 Kevin Kutzera N7KJK

There a number (6) of remotely executable vulnerabilities addressed in this release. MAJOR CHANGES IN v6.45.1: ---------------------- CVE-2018-1157 memory exhaustion vulnerability. An authenticated remote attacker can crash the HTTP server and in some circumstances reboot the system via a crafted HTTP POST request. CVE-2018-1158 stack exhaustion vulnerability. An authenticated remote attacker can crash the HTTP server via recursive parsing of JSON. CVE-2019-11477 integer overflow in the Linux kernel when handling TCP Selective Acknowledgments (SACKs) CVE-2019-11478 TCP retransmission queue implementation in tcp_fragment in the Linux kernel could be fragmented when handling certain TCP Selective Acknowledgment (SACK) sequences. CVE-2019-11479 remote peer to fragment TCP resend queues CVE-2019-13074 vulnerability in the FTP daemon could allow remote attackers to exhaust all available memory, causing the device to reboot because of uncontrolled resource management. Voting Process Proposal RE: VOTE: Board Director Elections

To HamWAN Board and Supporting Members: The HamWAN PSDR Board of Director’s nomination and voting process, while it works and yields a very viable board of hard working committed folks – it is appears to me to be a bit hard to track and keep up with. As someone declares their candidacy – that triggers a vote on that individual by those reading the email thread. But it is never clear who else may be declaring. It seems that having the ability to see the complete list of those declared candidates and then the electorate having the ability to review that slate and then vote, based on the knowledge of who all is running would support more informed decision making. I am aware the current election practices are supported by the by-laws but we probably have some latitude to make administrative changes to the process if these are deemed to add value to the process and outcomes. Trying to reconnect...

WE7X here. At least a couple of years ago, the 240 degree sector on Tiger that I was relaying to from my home tower, was de-commisioned and moved to East Tiger. Then I lost my connection to Baldi. I am wondering if the antenna ( 30dB Pointing/MicroTik combination) I had pointed at Baldi, can be re-positioned to receive signals from the new location at East Tiger. Can someone do a survey to see if it might be possible ( location on tower has not changes, so still 50 to 60 feet up. I do not think local trees in that directions should be a problem, as the horizon is more open to the NE than to the South (looking toward Baldi). Thanks Rod Johnson
